About Amy
Much of what we know about Amy comes from her granddaughter, Iva Johnson, and census records. However, no two census records seem to agree on her age. She could not read or write, and no doubt led a hard life in the hills of Tennessee as a single woman with two children. Iva told of how Amy smoked a corn cob pipe and wore a red bandana over her hair. She also mentioned that Amy lived “down in the hollow” from where Iva lived with her father on Sulphur Springs Rd.
It is believed that both of her children had the same father (a Leinart), but there are no records to prove that. Her daughter never married and we do not believe she had any children. We also believe that Amy is buried in Robbins Cemetery. Chances are, so is her daughter, but neither has a marked grave.
